Back to Back Candidate Forums in Chicago and the Suburbs

Posted: 12/11/2009

Mikva Challenge held back to back candidate forums last weekend. On Friday, Mikva Challenge Suburban hosted a student-run candidate forum in Palatine for the Gubernatorial elections - over 128 students from 8 suburban schools attended the event.  The next day, a group of Chicago students came out for the Senate Candidate forum at National Louis University in Chicago.  At both forums, students listened to the candidates (and their surrogates) as they lay out their reasons for running in next year's primaries; and later, asked them the tough questions about issues ranging from same sex marriages to immigration to gun control to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

These candidate forums are part of Mikva's elections program, which provides real opportunities for young people to learn the inner-workings of elections and campaigning. The candidate forums offer these young people the chance to question the candidates directly about issues affecting them and their communities. Videos from these two forums will be available soon.
