...Here's a Mikva Election Day Update!
It's certainly an exciting Election Day for Chicago youth! Over 2,500 high school students are working in polling places across the city right now as part of Mikva's student judge project, helping a record turnout of people to vote. Duane Armour (right), who attends Morgan Park High School, even got to meet Sen. Barack Obama this morning when Obama cast his vote at Beulah Shoesmith Elementary in Hyde Park! "It's life-changing," Duane told us of his experience as an election judge today. "This is history, you know? Most people don't get to experience this in their lifetime." And while you're anxiously waiting for the poll results to come in tonight, we hope you take a moment to read the article below, published in the New York Times by a Mikva teacher at Gage Park High School, Victor Harbison. In an eventful election year like this one, Mikva programs are not only impacting students in meaningful ways, but impacting their teachers, too.
