Youth Commission, Mayor Emanuel Launch CTA Fare Pilot Program
For one semester, 500 students will ride for free, thanks to a new CTA pilot program spearheaded by Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the Mikva Challenge Youth Commission.
The Free Fare Card will be tested out as a pilot program for a semester, the Mayor announced Monday August 27th at Wells Community Academy, one of five participating high schools.
The impetus behind the Card stemmed from a Youth Commission policy recommendation last summer. Improvements to transit safety and affordability have been shown to lead to increases in attendance rates, according the the recommendation and other research conducted by the Commission.
